Windows Phone users were eagerly anticipating Microsoft to talk about Windows 10 Mobile launch date at its Windows 10 devices event in New York City. However, no one mentioned anything about when to expect the upcoming mobile operating system from Redmond.
Windows 10 Mobile launch for existing devices:
Microsoft announced several new devices at its event, including new Lumia smartphones, brand new Surface Pro 4, and a very exciting new 13.5 inch Surface Book. The new phones will ship with Windows 10 Mobile and offer support for features like Windows Hello and Continuum. All good and perfect, except that Windows 10 Mobile for existing devices didn’t get much love on the stage.
Have you been wondering when your current Windows Phone will be upgraded to the new operating system? A Microsoft representative has now confirmed that the official launch of Windows 10 Mobile will happen sometime in December. A post on the Lumia Facebook page has been responded by a Microsoft representative confirming the release in December. No specific dates are shared yet, but at least you now have the timeframe of the upcoming OS release for your Lumias. Here is what was posted on the page:
Windows 10 is available on PCs and tablets now, and while Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL ship with Windows 10 for phones, broad availability of Windows 10 on other devices, including mobile phones, will begin rolling out in December.
It was earlier expected that the new OS will come in November, however, looking at the state of the current insider preview builds, it is only a good news that the company is taking time to polish the operating system before releasing it to the public. If you can’t wait until December, you can get into the Windows Insider Program to test the new operating system as it’s being developed and tested at Microsoft.
