Is Your iPhone 6s Randomly Shutting Down? You’re Not Alone

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus do have their fair share of issues, and most of them can be traced back to the software that the devices are running – iOS 9. A new issue has just surfaced, where users are complaining that their iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices are mysteriously powering down on their own even with the smartphones having sufficient battery life left in them.
iPhone 6s 2
According to users on Apple Support Communities, and of course, Reddit, many are complaining that their iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices are powering down for no reason. But instead of absolutely shutting down, their devices get into a state of limbo, where you can’t power it back on using the Power button on the device itself. Instead, holding down the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds boots the device back up so that you can carry back with your routine. If you’re a user that has been facing that very same issue, then you now know how to tackle it.
Judging from the above mentioned issue, it’s highly likely that the problem is a software related one rather than hardware, something which Apple can easily fix using an update. But when will that update arrive? Give the speed at which the Cupertino giant is pushing out pre-release builds and point releases for iOS 9, then we can expect it to arrive soon.
iPhone 6s again
At this point, we highly recommend that you stay up to date when it comes to software releases from Apple as they bring with them a bunch of under the hood bug fixes and performance enhancements. It’s also being reported that iOS 9.0.1 and iPhone 6s (4.7-inch model) users are affected by this issue the most. And if you happen to fall victim to it as well, then do not forget the Home + Power button combination. Simply hold both of them down for 10 seconds till you see the Apple logo on the display. The boot process will then carry on normally. But do keep in mind that this is a workaround to start up your iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. This won’t fix the issue for good.
If you’ve been affected the issue as well, then do not forget to let us know about it in the comments section below. And if the issue is really, really bad at your end, then we highly recommend that you try an iTunes restore before walking up to an Apple Store for a replacement device.

AMD Announces Restructuring Plan, To Cut 5% of Workforce And Reorganize Operations

AMD announced a restructuring plan yesterday to cut about 5% of its global workfroce and outsource certain operations in a bid to cut costs.
In addition to the reduction of the company’s global workforce, AMD has also revealed that it will consolidate a number of real-estate facilities, outsource certain application development and IT services, restructure the Eneterprise Embedded and Semi-custom business unit (EESC) as well as task a couple of veteran AMD executives to head two vital regional operations.
AMD logo feature
According Drew Prairie, director of corporate communications at AMD the actions do not involve AMD’s drivers teams or AMD’s globally deployed product design and engineering teams. The actions were carefully considered in an effort to protect the company’s roadmaps, engineering talent and product design capabilities.
Talking to KitGuru.net Drew Prairie said :
“The outsourcing is not related to software teams working on drivers, ISV [independent software vendor] enablement or engineering/product design,”

AMD’s Restructuring Plan In A Nutshell

Talking to WCCFTech.com Drew Prairie outlined AMD’s plan and summed it up in five major actions :
– Creating the Enterprise Solutions Teams within our Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom (EESC) segment to align our business, engineering and sales efforts in this key part of our business around our largest growth opportunities in the data center and targeted embedded/semi-custom markets;
– Streamlining our computing and graphics sales structure by focusing our teams on our priority customers, markets, and geographies;
– Bolstering our operations in parts of the world critical to our long-term success by creating two regional President positions for Europe and China;
– Aligning our global real estate footprint with our business needs;
– Simplifying our IT model by outsourcing our IT support and internal application development.

AMD’s EESC And CG Restructure

The new structure of AMD’s Embedded, Enterprise and Semi-Custom business unit will be divided into three enterprise solutions teams. These teams will be responsible for business management, engineering and sales. The new structure is hoped to accelerate the growth of the segment as well as facilitate an effective response to on-going industry challenges.
For AMD’s Computing and Graphics (CG) business unit the restructuring plan involves appointing Spencer Pan as AMD’s president in the Greater China region and Darren Grasby as president of AMD in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

AMD’s Restructuring Plan To Cost $42 Million, Save $67 Million By The End Of 2016

The restructuring actions are expected to cost AMD a total of $42 million, $31 million of which related to severance and benefit costs, $1 million to facilities related consolidation charges and $9 million related to software licenses. Of the $42 million, $41 million will be paid in the third quarter of 2015.
AMD expects that these actions will result in savings that amount to $9 in 2015 and an additional $58 million in 2016 for a total of $67 million by the end of 2016.
On September 26, 2015, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.  adopted a restructuring plan (the “Plan”). The Plan is focused on the Company’s ongoing efforts to simplify its business and align resources around its priorities of building great products and deepening customer relationships.
The Plan provides for a workforce reduction of approximately 5% of the Company’s global workforce. The Plan includes organizational actions such as outsourcing certain IT services and application development. The Plan also anticipates a charge for the consolidation of certain real estate facilities. The Company currently expects to record restructuring and asset impairment charges in the aggregate of approximately $42 million resulting from the Plan. The Company expects to record a majority of the restructuring charge in the amount of approximately $41 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 2015, of which approximately $31 million is related to severance and benefit costs, approximately $1 million to facilities related consolidation charges and approximately $9 million of intangible asset related charges associated with the impairment of certain software licenses that have ongoing payment obligations. The Company expects the Plan will likely result in total cash payments of approximately $26 million and $15 million in the fiscal years 2015 and 2016, respectively.
The savings from the Plan are anticipated to be approximately $2 million and $7 million in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal year 2015, respectively. The Company anticipates savings of approximately $58 million in fiscal year 2016. The actions associated with the Plan are expected to be substantially completed by the end of fiscal year 2016.
All of these actions are in an effort to push AMD’s operational efficiency and drive profitability as the company enters the next phase with major product launches coming up next year on FinFET technology. AMD’s President and CEO Lisa Su’s message as soon as she assumed here role was to simplify the business and focus the company’s energy and investments on product design and core research and development endeavors. These latest restructuring actions are a continuum of that philosophy to set the company up for a more successful trajectory and steer it towards profitability in 2016 and beyond.

Multi GPU Technology Analysis – Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossFire Scaling, Frame-Time and Value Comparison

Multi GPU configurations are part and parcel of nearly every high end build. Unless the builder has decided to forgo the performance benefit of multiple graphic cards due to personal preference, you will find at least a dual SLI or Crossfire setup in many of the enthusiast builds. However, we are all aware, there are certain drawbacks associated with using more than one graphic card. These include issues from micro stuttering, to bad multi GPU profiles, to plain and simple diminishing marginal performance. Today, sourcing a post from IYD.KR by the well known DG Lee, we will take a look at how SLI and Crossfire compare to themselves, and to each other.
AMD-Nvidia-Feature

An indepth look at GPU scaling technologies of the current generation: Nvidia’s TITAN-X and 980 TI in SLI versus AMD’s R9 Fury X in CrossFire

If we take the performance offered by a single graphic card to be 100%, than a gamer employing 2 or more cards should logically expect gains of 100% (for a total of 200% etc) for every card added. Of course, graphic cards (currently) do not stack that way – not even close. The real gains are much more diminished in nature and the a plethora of complications is added to the mix (frame pacing being one of the recent examples). Stuttering used to be a problem in the initial era of the multi GPU, something which has now tricked down to problems associated with micro-stuttering. The primary problem, with any multi GPU technology (be it Crossfire or SLI), is that the GPUs do not logically act as a single, bigger GPU, but rather, they split the work between them. This translates to real world (micro) delays if the GPUs are not 100% in sync.
Nvidia AMD Multi GPU Benchmarks
Before we go any further, given above is the reference benchmarks for this test. It consists of 9 games and one synthetic benchmark. All of these were tested at three different resolutions, namely 1920×1080, 2560×1440 and 3840×2160. Before we begin our dive, please note that this particular graph is in relative terms to the single GPU configuration of the particular IHVand not in absolute terms, to each other. The complete list is given below:
  • Alien Isolation
  • Battlefield 4
  • Bioshock: Infinite
  • Crysis 3
  • Hitman: Absolution
  • Metro 2033
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Sniper Elite III
  • 3D Mark Firestrike
Right of the bat, we can see that red outperforms green in every step. There are a total of 9 tests present here, at three different resolutions and three different multi GPU configurations and the AMD R9 Fury X wins every single one of them. I think this makes it crystal clear: AMD’s multi GPU scaling clearly has an upper hand over the Nvidia counterpart.  The Nvidia GTX 980 Ti and the Nvidia GTX TITAN-X scale almost identically (probably because its the same chip inside both products: the GM200 Maxwell die).  The diminishing marginal returns of every added GPU (to the existing setup) are also obvious. The scaling is pretty horrible on lower resolutions (such as 1080p and 1440p) but that is more or less expected (due to the performance being CPU bound); and let’s face it, if you are running  an SLI or a Crossfire setup you probably aren’t rocking an ageing 1080p monitor.
The ideal frame time (per GPU) should add up to 1. So if you have 1 GPU, that is exactly 1. If you have two GPUs, it should be 0.5 and so on. The problem is however, that as with the actual performance, frame time has a downward trend as well, and that is something that cannot be avoided. It can, however, be minimized and that is where each technology comes in. Given below is the comparison charts (including the Average Relative Performance and Frametimes) between AMD’s Crossfire Technology and Nvidia SLI Tech:
AMD GPU ScalingNvidia GPU Scaling

A comparison of deterioration due to GPU scaling in Nvidia SLI and AMD Crossfire (over xDMA).
*Lower is better (in absolute terms).

To make the impact of the information more clear, I have taken the liberty to calculate the deviations from the Ideal score. Once again, AMD’s multi GPU technology shines here. AMD’s deviation from the ideal frame-time and the ideal performance is very minimal at dual Crossfire configuration (both at approximately 7% form the ideal). As more GPUs are added, the score deteriorates, till the Quad GPU configuration is lagging approximately 22% behind the ideal scaling and 28% behind the ideal frame time. This means that instead of 1, the total frame-time (for all GPUs combined) is actually 1.28 – which will be the root cause behind any complications that result from Multi-GPU.
Nvidia variants fare worse. In dual SLI, we see that the card has is lagging 11% behind the ideal scaling and 29% at the top end (four GPUs). Frame-time is a similar story, with deviation ranging from 12% all the way up to a massive 41% (in Quad SLI). This means that if you are rocking  four of green’s cards, they will add up to a total frame time of 1.41 (instead of the ideal 1),which is a pretty massive drop, and slightly less than double of AMD’s number.
The obvious next question, when dealing with multiple GPUs in SLI or Crossfire, is of course, value. In the second half of this article, we will look at the value offered by the setups as well as investigate, why, AMD tends to have an advantage in multi GPU.

Tesla Model X is Finally Here And It’s Insane

A few months ago I wrote an article about the Tesla Model X SUV which was a Crossover SUV and was aimed largely for women drivers. Now Tesla has launched the Model X in an event and the SUV is spectacular beyond words.
model x

The SUV is unmatchable in the features it provides but the price tag may be a little too much for some people

Tesla has made a lot of beautiful and technologically advanced cars but the Tesla Model X just tops the list. It has everything that you need in a future SUV and more, and it is really fast too, as usual it’s really expensive but is worth the price. CEO Elon Musk says:
“I’m not sure anyone should make this car, really. I mean, yeah. There is far more there than is really necessary to sell a car,”
However as per some reviews, Tesla’s new Model X Is a little over engineered but still it’s worth a wait. This luxury SUV, which is world’s first of its kind, is stunning. This innovative Tesla Model X is literally redefining the electric vehicles industry.
model x 1
The Silicon Valley automaker had been teasing us since years, about the prospective Model X. Finally the first ever look of Model X is here bringing in the most sensational model ever into the production line.
Model X is literally the safest and fastest model vehicle ever witnessed in the history of vehicle production. It has a 90 kWh battery which provides 250 miles of range with a standard wheel drive. Model X has a seating capacity of seven adults. This model can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a matter of just 3.2 seconds which is just ludicrously fast.
“The mission of Tesla is to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport,” CEO Elon Musk said at the car’s reveal, held at the company’s factory in Fremont, California. “It’s important to know that any kind of car can go electric.”
Tesla’s first priority was safety while designing its Model X. The battery is floor mounted which in turns lower the center of gravity which eventually reduces the risk of rollover, almost reduces the risk up to 50% in comparison to any other vehicle of a similar sort. Since Model X doesn’t have a gasoline engine, the huge front trunk operates like a large impact absorbing crumple zone.
This model of Tesla constantly scans the roadways with the inbuilt cameras, radars and sonar systems. This enables the driver to have real time feedback regarding the surrounding roadways so that the driver can avoid any sort of collisions on the way. Model X is designed in a way that in case of emergency, it can apply brakes automatically even when the car is going at high speeds.
model x 3
The car has a great filter which is a medical grade HEPA filter; it filters the outside air which may include pollen, bacteria, viruses or any similar sort of pollution before it can circulate into the cabin. It also has a bioweapon defense mode that can generate positive pressure inside the cabin so that occupants can be protected from any sort of bioweapons.
model x 2
It has got Falcon wing doors that make the user’s life easier by providing easier access to second or third row seats without any hassle. Since It is one of the most aerodynamic SUV in production ever, It can go up to 250 miles of range as mentioned above and also speeds up to 150mph. Model X’s drag coefficient is about 20% lower when compared with the next best SUV ever produced.
Model X has a panoramic windshield in the production sector. This will provide a matchless view of the stars and sky as well. Optimized solar tinting enables the matchless visibility for the drivers as well as the passengers sitting in this new Tesla X.
In short this vehicle is awesome and if you can afford the six figure price tag then you should definitely think of buying one. We will keep you updated about other stuff from Tesla, tell us what you think about the Model X in the comments below.

MSI GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition Gets Revealed, Lots of Shiny Golden Pictures

MSI has revealed their GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition, a card that’s clocked higher, and includes a new iteration of their Twin Frozr cooler, to help cool down the seemingly hungry beast.

Three different OC profiles for three different situations on the MSI GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition

The MSI GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition is one massive and strangely beautiful card. The Twin Frozr V cooler has a gold motif which is odd with the full copper heatsink sitting atop the ASIC. All of that copper has six absolutely massive heatpipes and two 100mm “TORX” fans that have a modified fan blade for increased airflow. The design should also be a lot quieter, as evidenced in real-world tests. They’re also implementing a zero RPM idle for those fans, and they’re controlled completely independent of each other. The MSI logo also lights up a milky white color to set the mood.
What’s different aside from the gold motif? Well, the milky gold theme is not the only draw to this card. MSI has included some top-shelf components to ensure an even higher overclockability on air than is usual. Hi-C CAP capacitors that are more efficient and run cooler, super ferrite chokes and solid capacitors for other uses are all going to be there to increase reliability and thermal stability.
And what you’ve been waiting for, the clock speeds. Three different modes will be selectable depending on your needs. If you just want to show off and complete a benchmark with as high a framerate as possible, then select the OC Mode. For a more long-term stable solution, select the Gaming Mode. And finally there’s the silent mode, still offering the speed of the 980 Ti yet with speeds that don’t ramp up the fans too terribly much.
  • 1291 MHz / 1190 MHz (OC Mode)
  • 1228 MHz / 1140 MHz (Gaming Mode)
  • 1076 MHz / 1000 MHz (Silent Mode)
There is no word on price or availability, though it’s definitely coming very soon and probably with quite the price tag associated to it.

You Can Now Set Videos As Profile Pictures On Facebook

If you’re done with a static profile picture, Facebook is rolling out a new profile layout that allows users to put GIFs or short videos as ‘profile video’. Even though Facebook is not the first to use short videos and GIFs as profile pictures, Snapchat users have had this feature available for quite some time that acted as a medium for users Snapcodes.
01-video_gifs_final
The most visible change is the ability to set profile pictures in the form of short looped videos which can be as long as 7 seconds. Facebook began testing for the new design this summer and now the time is finally here as the rollout will begin for U.S and U.K users first. However, Facebook has kept this feature optional, so if you like your profile pictures still, you can opt to stay out of it.
Let’s see what more features have Facebook included in its profile redesign for users.

Facebook Introduces GIFs And Short Videos As Profile Pictures

Another important feature that Facebook has included is the option to set your timely profile pictures according to the occasion. For instance, you can temporarily set your image timed to the event. Once the event is over, it will automatically revert to your original profile picture. The profile pictures will be set in the front and center of the profile for a specific time judging by the event’s duration.
Facebook
Facebook’s significant redesign also features support for emojis in the Bio section. Along with this, a new About section is also part of the redesign that would show a user’s location, occupation and academic details. These features are not compulsory so you can choose to negate them. A lot of emphasis has also been paid to Photos that now have their own section. Facebook users also have the ability to ‘feature’ their favorite photos.
The mobile-first design adopted by Facebook makes the profile more symmetrical and aligned. The profile picture/video is now bigger and situated at the center of the screen. Facebook has adopted a smart move to align user experience with its business. The new profile design displays more information about you and that is what people want when they visit profile pictures of their friends, colleagues or coworkers.
If you are situated in U.S or U.K, there is a better chance that you will notice these changes soon. For others around the globe, you will have to wait till Facebook rolls out a mass update. Let us know in the comments how you liked Facebook’s new profile redesign.
