MSI has revealed their GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition, a card that’s clocked higher, and includes a new iteration of their Twin Frozr cooler, to help cool down the seemingly hungry beast.
Three different OC profiles for three different situations on the MSI GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition
The MSI GTX 980 Ti Golden Gaming Edition is one massive and strangely beautiful card. The Twin Frozr V cooler has a gold motif which is odd with the full copper heatsink sitting atop the ASIC. All of that copper has six absolutely massive heatpipes and two 100mm “TORX” fans that have a modified fan blade for increased airflow. The design should also be a lot quieter, as evidenced in real-world tests. They’re also implementing a zero RPM idle for those fans, and they’re controlled completely independent of each other. The MSI logo also lights up a milky white color to set the mood.
What’s different aside from the gold motif? Well, the milky gold theme is not the only draw to this card. MSI has included some top-shelf components to ensure an even higher overclockability on air than is usual. Hi-C CAP capacitors that are more efficient and run cooler, super ferrite chokes and solid capacitors for other uses are all going to be there to increase reliability and thermal stability.
And what you’ve been waiting for, the clock speeds. Three different modes will be selectable depending on your needs. If you just want to show off and complete a benchmark with as high a framerate as possible, then select the OC Mode. For a more long-term stable solution, select the Gaming Mode. And finally there’s the silent mode, still offering the speed of the 980 Ti yet with speeds that don’t ramp up the fans too terribly much.
- 1291 MHz / 1190 MHz (OC Mode)
- 1228 MHz / 1140 MHz (Gaming Mode)
- 1076 MHz / 1000 MHz (Silent Mode)
There is no word on price or availability, though it’s definitely coming very soon and probably with quite the price tag associated to it.
