Watch Speed Runner beat Fallout 3 in 15 Minutes

A superstar speed runner has done the impossible: beating Fallout 3 in less than 15 minutes.
While it’s hard not to be impressed by the 14 minute 54 second run time, it’s safe to say that Rydou misses out on a lot of what we think of when Fallout comes to mind.
The irony being that to get this good at the glitches and tricks needed to get even close to that time, you need to know the game like the back of your hand. Handy annotations offer fascinating insights into the workings of one of the most popular RPGs of the last generation.
In the description, Rydou gave some extra information about the speedrun, including how he managed some of the things he’d done to reach the time.
Hi everyone, this is the very first sub 15 ever achieved on Fallout 3.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game, I skip dialogues and clip through walls by quicksaving/quickloading.
Everytime you quickload, the collision detection doesn’t work during something like 10 frames, allowing me to clip through objects and walls, in some extent.
Also, I’m playing in very easy, that explain why the damage received are pretty low. Also, at the speed I’m running, I don’t actually receive that many damages anyway.. This is the default difficulty used by the community.
When you cripple your legs, your speed is set to 0, then bring back to 60% of your normal speed. By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you 60% without actually being put to 0 ( because we don’t actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 160% of your normal speed.
This speedboost can appear in two versions : One which is “breakable”, it will last as long as you don’t quickload again. The second one is “unbreakable”, you can quickload or load a game without losing it.
This time can still be improved, even if my raven rock was godly, my vault 87 was pretty awful, so I would like to get a sub 14:50.
As the same time, I might try to get the sub 30 on FNV glitchless, and then get a decent time on FNV Any% because the run is now 2 min faster than it was.
