Nintendo NX To Be Unveiled This June For An October / November Launch, Analyst Says

Nintendo has been working on a new console codenamed NX for some time, but the company has yet to share anything on its new product. Many have speculated that the new console will be officially unveiled this year, and it seems like this is going to be the case, according to a Japanese analyst from Nomura Securities.

According to analyst Junko Yamamura from Nomura Securities, Nintendo will start announcing the “concept” of the console between March and May, with a full unveiling happening in June. Mr. Yamamura also predicts that the console will be released before the end of the year, between October and November, and will end up cannibalizing sales of the 3DS and Wii U.

Even though there are no official news on the matter, Mr. Yamamura’s analysis seems to be spot on, considering there are no big Wii U and 3DS titles scheduled for the second half of the year, not counting the yet to be dated new The Legend of Zelda Wii U, something that seems to suggest that Nintendo is fully focused on the development of  NX launch titles.

As mentioned above, there’s nothing we currently know about the Nintendo NX, but it seems like the console will be a home device. A few weeks ago the Koei Tecmo CEO Yoichi Erikawa called the Nintendo NX a “machine” in an interview with Japanese website 4Gamer.

4Gamer: On one hand, virtual reality requires special machinery to play, and we feel that the current state of “games” is headed to yet another way of playing. It’s almost as if it’s evolving towards the opposite direction of smartphones, and requires to “only play at that spot,” or something along those lines. Lately it seems that [home] consoles haven’t been doing too well, but is that the case? At least that’s what we’re wondering.
Erikawa: “Actually, I think that it’ll start doing much better. The PlayStation 4 has recently surpassed 2 million units in nationwide sales, and Nintendo announced a new ‘machine’ called the NX. From this point forward, I believe that each company will make clear commitments for these machines.”
