Star Wars:The Force Awakens continues to add feats to its list of box office records and now has the biggest Christmas Eve domestic gross with $27.5 million (roughly Rs. 181.7 crores), defeating previous record holder Avatar which took in $11.2 million (roughly Rs. 72 crores) in 2009.
The seventh installment of the Star Wars saga also broke the opening week domestic box office record, earning $391.1 million (roughly Rs. 2,585 crores) after seven days in theatres, reported Ace Showbiz.
The film beat out previous record holder Jurassic World, which took in $296.2 million (roughly Rs. 1,957 crores) during its first week at North America box office in May.
The Star Wars movie is now the 22nd highest domestic grosser of all time. It outpaced Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II ($381 million - approximately Rs. 2,518 crores), Finding Nemo ($380.8 million - approximately Rs. 2,517 crores) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith ($380.3 million - approximately Rs. 2,513 crores).

The Force Awakens, which stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Harrison Ford, could earn $35 million-$47 million (roughly Rs. 231 crores - Rs. 310 crores) on Christmas Day, which would easily surpass the $24.6 million (roughly Rs. 162 crores) opening of Sherlock Holmes on December 25, 2009 to nab the biggest Christmas Day revenue of all time.
So far, the J.J. Abrams-directed movie has earned $422.4 million (roughly Rs. 2,792 crores) overseas and $391 million at domestic box office, pushing its worldwide total to $813.4 million (roughly Rs. 5,376 crores).
