Huawei's Honor brand is now rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its Honor 7 smartphone in India. The Honor 7 users however will have to register to receive the latest Marshmallow update via over-the-air (OTA). The required details include the IMEI number and previous OS version of the handset. Users can check for version number in Settings > About Phone.
The company says users will start receiving OTA update after 24 to 48 hours of the submission of the required details. Huawei had confirmed that the Honor 7 (Review) smartphone was eligible for the Marshmallow update.
Some of the features of the core Android 6.0 Marshmallow update include revamped app permissions; Google Now on Tap feature; new Chrome feature that will change the Web experience for Android users; new ways to handle Web links; Android Pay mobile payment system; new fingerprint APIs for developers to add into their apps, New Silent feature for sound and vibrate mode, as well as a 'Do Not Disturb' mode to block all sounds or only alarms and notifications, and a battery saver feature called Doze that will make Android devices smart about managing power.
To recall, the Honor 7 smartphone was launched in India back in October priced at Rs. 22,999 for the 16GB inbuilt storage variant. The handset initially ran Android 5.0 Lollipop. Notably, the company at the India launch had promised to release the Marshmallow update by February 2016. However, it seems the Chinese company has made it way ahead of its promised release date.
