AMD Officially Launches 7000 Series ‘Godavari’ APUs – A10-7850K Flagship with FreeSync, DX12, HSA and OpenCL 2.0 for $127

The brand new Kaveri Refresh platform from AMD featuring the JC stepping has been officially launched. The APUs have retained the 7000 Series nomenclature and will be available from e-tailers from today. Originally it was thought that the Commercial Godavari platform will ship under the 8000 series nomenclature but a recent leak negated that and it was thought that the standing 7000 nomenclature would receive a xx20 addition (AMD A10-7850K to AMD A10-7870K) but that seems to be a locality based thing (The AMD’s 10-7870K chip has been listed with the AD787KXDJCBOX part number in some regions).

6th Generation, ‘Kaveri-Refresh’ APUs from AMD officially launched – 7000 Series nomenclature retained

We have known about the timeframe of Kaveri’s refresh platform for quite a long time now (we were off by approximately 20 days). The Kaveri-Refresh platform “Godavari” is named after the second largest river of India after the river Ganges and falls in line with Kaveri which is also a name of a river situated in India. Godavari will retain the Kaveri design with up to four “Steamroller” x86 cores, Radeon graphics engine based on the GCN 1.1 architecture with up to 512 stream processors, a dual-channel DDR3 memory controller and HSA [heterogeneous system architecture] capabilities. The APUs will use FM2+ form-factor and will likely be drop-in compatible with existing boards.
Starting May 10, AMD’s A-Series desktop APU products will be available at new price points and deliver new features and benefits to end users than ever before. The AMD A-Series Desktop APUs now offer Windows® 10 readiness including DirectX® 12 Multiengine and Multiadapter features. Combined with existing support for AMD FreeSync™, AMD Mantle, HSA features heterogeneous queuing (hQ) and heterogeneous uniform memory access (hUMA) as enabled by OpenCL™ 2.0 applications, and OpenGL 4.4, AMD A-Series APUs stand ready to increase value to end users for popular gaming titles and mainstream productivity applications today and tomorrow.

The “K” suffix indicates an unlocked multiplier (and therefore overclocking). The A10 lineup consists of the A10-7850K, A10-7800 and the A10-770K. The A10-7850K is the Kaveri Refresh Platform flagship, leading the Godavari lineup with 4Ghz stock turbo and 95W TDP (configurable to 65W and 45W). All APUs of this category will have full FreeSync, DX12 and HSA support – so you should be covered for all of the killer apps in the next few years. The lineup flagship will etail for around $127 – which is a price point that offers absolutely insane value.

The A8 lineup consists of 2 APUs, namely the A8-7650K and the A8-7600 of which the former has an unlocked multiplier. The Godavari APU A8-7650K will have a stock turbo of 3.8Ghz with 95W TDP (non-configurable), whiles the A8-7600 APU of the same Kaveri Refresh Platform will have maximum turbo of 3.8Ghz with only 65W TDP (configurable to 45W). The base model (A8-7600) costs just $85 and you will have to pay $10 more for the unlocked multiplier. All APUs of this category will have full FreeSync, DX12 and HSA support.
The A6 and A4 lineup has exactly one SKU each in the Godavari lineup. This means that only 2 Kaveri models are getting refreshed namely the A6-7400K and A4-7300. The APUs have a suggested price tag of $60 and $42 respectively – which once again, is frankly cheap as it gets. The A6-7400K has a stock turbo of 3.8Ghz and a TDP of 65W (configurable to 45W). The A4-7300 has a maximum turbo of 4.0 Ghz with only 65W TDP. Only the A6 variant of this lineup supports FreeSync, DX12 and HSA. The A4-7300’s support only extends to DX11.2 with no FreeSync or HSA.
Unfortunately however, the clock speed increment of the Kaveri Refresh (Godavari) SKUs have not been intimated to us. However, for those who are curious, they can refer to this old leak of Godavari OEM, which have the 8xxx nomenclature. Please remember that utilization of the 8xxx nomenclature is now no longer true (for commercial channels) and will only appear in the OEM side of things.
