The 5 Most Beautiful Games of 2015 (So Far)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say, but we have grown accustomed to a standard definition of beauty. No matter whether we are talking about a beautiful person or beauty in nature or in art, the same applies in all cases. Video games have relied heavily on their visual flair to attract the gaming crowd, and it is understandable, as beauty can seduce. The visual style of a game, regardless of the type or assets it uses, generates a certain appeal that can cause great interest in gamers.

We can have a gorgeous looking game that is using beautiful art without being technically groundbreaking, or a game that is so artistically unique with an appealing but simple visual style.

We have yet to witness a lot of games that will be revealed in the following months, including the undoubtedly gorgeous Star Wars Battlefront, which will be revealed on April 17 at the annual Star Wars Celebration event, as well as multiple announcements at E3 2015 in June.
So far there are a few games that really stand out, because of their technical achievement, as well as for the scope of their world and their visual artistry and uniqueness.
In no particular order the 5 most beautiful games that we have seen so far in 2015 are:

1.The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an incredibly ambitious open world RPG, that is breathtakingly beautiful in visual quality and massive in scope. CD Projekt RED have created a vast medieval fantasy world, filled with countless NPCs roaming its towns, as well as numerous creatures and monsters to be found in its lush environments, ranging from forests and mountains, to enemy infested waters. Every little detail is impeccably done, resulting in one of the most beautiful open world titles to date.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release on May 19 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

2. Batman Arkham Knight
Batman Arkham Knight is the conclusion to the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy, and is shaping up to be the crowning achievement in the franchise. Featuring a huge world for the genre, the beauty found in Arkham Knight in unquestionable. Using a heavily modified Unreal Engine 3, what Rocksteady have accomplished is nothing short of amazing. Gotham city looks breathtakingly beautiful with water pouring on its streets creating an amazingly shiny environment, with character models that feature a huge amount of detail on both their faces as well as on their attire. The Dark Knight himself wears an incredibly shiny suit and cape which both show huge amounts of detail as water drips on their surface.
Batman Arkham Knight will be releasing on June 23 2015, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

3 Yoshi’s Wooly World
Yoshi’s Wooly World is a different case of an appealing and unique visual style done right. The whole world is made out of yarn, and even though we have already seen something similar from Nintendo before, in Kirby’s Epic Yarn, it did not feature the same amount of visual detail found in Yoshi’s Wooly World. A beautiful and hugely appealing visual style and great art design that goes head to head with the big boys.

Yoshi’s Wooly World will release in the Fall of 2015 exclusively for the Wii U.

4. Ori and The Blind Forest
ri and the Blind Forest is another case of a technically simple visual style, that is artistically immensely unique and special. The artwork of Ori and the Blind forest is stunning. Its world and characters are magical and transfer you into a gorgeous dream that defines the 2D platformer genre. The gameplay is as impressive as the gorgeous art style making Ori and the Blind Forest one of the better and most unique gaming experiences of 2015.
Ori and the Blind Forest is currently available for the Xbox One and PC.

5. Bloodborne
Bloodborne is From Software’s and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan’s exclusive PlayStation 4 title.Touted as the spiritual successor to Demon Souls and the Dark Souls series, it brings the trademark hardcore difficulty to a whole new generation of gamers. Even though it can be argued that both the graphics and performance could have been better, there is no question to the incredible atmosphere that the world of Bloodborne creates. Everything in the town of Yharnam, breathes gloom and despair and drags you into a horror Victorian adventure that immerses you in the game like no other.
Bloodborne is available for the PlayStation 4.

While the aforementioned titles might not be everyone’s definition of a beautiful game, each one of them has a very special visual appeal that sets it apart from the majority of other titles.

There are two other very special mentions that should have made the list, but both have unfortunately being delayed to 2016. I am of course referring to The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U and Uncharted 4.
We are in for a treat with both the gameplay reveal of Star Wars Battlefront later this month, as well as with the tons of game announcements that will be coming at E3, from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda will have their own press conferences as well with their own big game announcements. So keep coming back for continuous updates, and full coverage of the Star Wars Celebration, from which we will bring you all Star Wars titles that will be revealed, as well as full coverage of the E3 2015 event.
