Just a few hours ago we reported the striking resemblance that the Doctor from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain bares with Italian Head Transplant Doctor Sergio Canavero. Dr. Canavero’s work and theories on head transplant somehow all line with the themes of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
A Reddit user managed to get in touch with the doctor and asked him about the subject, he also posted an image of the Skype call for proof. The doctor is planning to sue Konami for using his likeness and theory of head transplant, and plans to use the money given he wins the case to fund his head transplant project.
Supposedly the doctor was already aware that The Phantom Pain has a head transplant theory in it. The Redditor believes that he is not actually a doctor but was rather hired by Konami for a viral campaign. Dr. Canavero’s work though has been published in books since 2009. It seems like too much of a stretch for Kojima to have planned this 6 years ago. Although the it could be possible that Kojima got in touch with Dr. Canavero in 2013.
Back in 2010, Hideo Kojima tweeted that he is partnering up with an ally to make his taboo project.
“The next project will challenge a certain type of taboo. If I mess up, I’ll probably have to leave the industry. However, I don’t want to pass by avoiding that. I turn 47 this year. It’s been 24 years since I started making games. Today, I got an ally who would happily support me in that risk. Although it’s just one person. For a start, it’s good.”
This could all be a mere coincidence, all Konami has indeed planned a huge viral campaign for metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The rumored fallout between Hideo Kojima and Konami has definitely stirred some upset surrounding the project, and it could be related to Kojima’s “risk” backfiring. Of course it could also be part of a bigger ruse planned by Konami, but it seems quite unlikely.
One thing is certain though, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the game, and regardless if it’s positive or not, it keeps Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain in the spotlight. Lets hope that however this turns out, the game doesn’t suffer because of it, and we get Metal Gear title we need. We can also wish Mr Kojima the best of luck in his future endeavors.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set to launch on September 1, 2015 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. PC gamers need to wait a few weeks to get their hands on the game, which comes out on September 15, 2015 for the PC.
