Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 New Teaser Suggests Similarities with Deus Ex

Activision has released a new teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, tilted “Ember”, detailing the effect of human modifications and consequences in the future.
In the next 50 years, technological advancements will lead us into a world where only those who risk going too far, will find out how far we can actually go.
The video focuses on prosthetic limbs, neural interfacing and enhanced sensory perception. The use of these technological advancements in the military stirs ethical issues, that could somehow be linked to the game’s campaign.
It would definitely be quite interesting to see how Treyarch will implement the features in both the mechanics of the game as well as in the central story, driving an exciting and deep experience. A new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be available on April 26, which hopefully will shed some light on the gameplay and premise of the game.
Similarities with Deus Ex are quite apparent, but Treyarch will likely deliver something different with its approach to augmentations. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, augmented individuals are treated like outcasts and are persecuted, while in Black Ops 3 it appears that the use of augmentations by the military might result in a role reversal, between authoritative figures and the people.
Eidos Montréal’s Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, Executive Art Director of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Art Director of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, published a series of tweets following Black Ops teaser trailer:

Subsequently the official Deus Ex account released the following:

While the future setting and augmentations bare similarities with Deus Ex, Treyarch’s approach will certainly differ. The gameplay of a Call of Duty game has definitely no resemblance to that of the Deus Ex series, but it would be quite interesting to see how Treyarch makes use of these enhancements to hopefully deliver a refreshing and unique experience.
