AMD Radeon R9 M385 High End Mobility GPU Benchmarks Leak Out – Tonga Core Rebranded

AMD is preparing its 300 Series Mobility lineup as well, and the while there isn’t any concrete information about the flagship placement, the R9 M385 GPU will be the runners up in the high end spectrum. The Mobility Radeon R9 M385 GPU will probably have a brand new codename but is also going to be a Tonga rebrand. The GPU was recently listed on the website GFXBench (verified result) and has a plethora of benchmarks available for viewing pleasure.

AMD Radeon R9 M385 gets listed on GFXBench – purportedly a Tonga rebrand

The benchmarks of the Radeon R9 M385 Mobility GPU can be found over at GFXBench.com. As is usually the case with GFXBench benches, the results are skewed in some unknown fashion and are mostly incapable of being compared. The GPU Info however does prove this to be a legitimate run as opposed to a faked benchmark. Since GFXBench was also the source where older AMD mobility GPUs have leaked, I am pretty confident about the authenticity of this one. Without any further ado, here are the benchmarks in question:

For anyone wanting some real benchmarks of the chip – I would like to refer them to benchmarks of the Tonga GPU, of which this is probably a full or cut die. As for why we think this is the Tonga GPU, that is because both the Tonga GPU and the Radeon R9 M385 have exactly the same Device ID: AMD6646.1. Ofcourse, the codename might change and optimistically speaking, it could be a better binned die with more efficient architecture revision. But in all probability, this is the Tonga chip.

This is, in a way, good news as well. This increases the probability that we might possibly be looking at a brand new flagship chip on the mobility side. The mobility side of things is usually neglected by both red and green, but while re-brands reign supreme, once in a while you get a refresh, and this is shaping up to be just that. The word so far is that AMD is planning to launch its next generation lineup of products at Computex 2015; and I reckon, that’s where we will hear more about the Radeon Mobility R300 Series as well.
