LG Canada Says “Early 2015″ For LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop Upgrade

After LG announcing early in November that they would be the first major company to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop to their flagship, the LG G3. It seems as though the word ‘first,’ might have been more of an advertising ploy, than reality. Oh, they did roll it out in Poland – not sure how they picked Poland of all places…no offense to our Polish friends – but the updates seemed to come to an abrupt stop. So was LG the first to rollout 5.0 Lollipop…I guess in a technical sense, but what about in a reality sense? After Dr. Jong-Seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company stated, “LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority.  The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is”. I guess we were expecting a little more than just Poland.

With words being thrown around like “absolutely committed”, “as soon as possible”, and “top priority”, we tend to get a little excited. In LG’s defense, it does indicate that Poland would receive the 5.0 Lollipop update first, “followed by other key markets in the near future,” however, getting one update to one country in 2014, seems like a marketing ploy. When LG Canada was chastised on Twitter, by an appropriately named tweeter, ‘@rattlesomecages’, about the lack of LG’s Canadian commitment, LG answered back, “Hi there. Keep an eye out for early 2015 for the G3 Lollipop upgrade!”  He promptly answered back, “keep an eye out for me ditching #LG and switching to #Nexus”.

We are all waiting for the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, but unless you have a Nexus device, you should already be prepared not to get the new upgrade for 3 – 5 months after it comes out. It would be nice if Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony and other manufacturers would devote a group of programmers to doing nothing but upgrades, but it seems as though they are more concerned about selling you a new device than they are about upgrading past devices. This is an area where a struggling (of late) Samsung, could really win over new customers by offering upgrades faster than the competition, but they, like the others, all dropped the ball…again. So it looks as though Canada will have to wait for their LG G3’s to be updated in “early 2015,” whatever that means – January, February or March?  We will keep you posted if we hear anything else.
