Helio X30 is definitely a force to be reckoned with, as the latest benchmarks showed that the SoC was able to defeat a Snapdragon 820 in the latest AnTuTu scores. In addition to delivering a boatload of performance, Helio X30 is going to be extremely efficient when it comes to consuming power.
Helio 30 Reported To Only Deliver A 2 Percent Performance Gain, But A Whopping 50 Percent Power Consumption Reduction
The latest information from GizmoChina states that the Helio X30 might only be able to provide a 2 percent performance over Helio X20, but will boast energy efficiency of 50 percent. The 2 percent performance gain is something that got us scratching our heads. Looking at the previous AnTuTu scores, Helio X30 is leading the pack, while Helio X20 is trailing behind several chipsets, so as far as performance gain is concerned, it appears that the source did not care to mention under which scenario will this be experienced.
The number of cores are going to remain constant between Helio X20 and Helio X30, with one notable exception being that instead of 4 Cortex-A53 cores, they are going to be replaced with 4 Cortex-A35 ones. As reported earlier, Cortex-A35 is ARM’s most efficient processor to date, even surpassing the capabilities of Cortex-A53. According to the source, these 4 cores are going to be running at a speed of 2.0GHz. The entire processor configuration of Helio X30 has been listed as follows:
- 2 x Cortex-A7x cores running at 2.8GHz (or quite possibly cores belonging to the Artemis architecture)
- 4 x Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.2GHz
- 4 x Cortex-A35 cores running at 2.0GHz
- 2 x LPDDR4 RAM ePOP (indicating that the SoC will be an ‘all in on package’)
- A high-performing PowerVR GPU instead of an ARM Mali one
- Support up to a 26MP rear camera sensor
According to a previous reported, Helio X30 is expected to be manufactured on the 10nm FinFET process, and the first batch of phones expected to arrive in the market will probably be during the first quarter of 2017, if TSMC is able to produce a high amount of yield to one of its biggest clients. Additionally, the upcoming SoC will feature Imagination Technologies’ 7 series chip with four processing cores.
We will have to wait and see how this will hold up against the likes of Adreno 530, but looking at a smaller lithographic process, we should hope great things from Helio X30.
