2016 Moto X Specifications Include Snapdragon 820 And 4GB RAM; No Other Changes Expected?

When it comes to the Android world, over the past couple of years we’ve seen the sphere being dominated by manufacturers the likes of Samsung and LG. As the flagship smartphone race becomes an integral part of how things proceed in the overall market, manufacturers who offer the latest high end performance specifications with their devices end up taking a greater share of the pie. On the other hand, long time manufacturers such as Sony, HTC and Motorola have started to see things become a bit more complicated as this preference for high end devices continues to rise, but today, looks like Motorola might finally be ready for a strong comeback.

Moto X 2016 Surfaces On GeekBench With Snapdragon 820 And 4 GB RAM

The 2015 Moto X was quite a decent offering when it came to specifications at a pocket easy cost. The device came with the Snapdragon 808, a wise decision by Motorola given the Snapdragon 810’s well known throttling issues. Camera specifications for the device included a 21MP rear shooter, coupled with a 5MP secondary sensor that put the device right at the top in terms of photographic capabilities.
With 2015 being over however, looks like Motorola’s ready to equip its latest flagship smartphone with top tier hardware. A posting on the benchmark database Geekbench shows a Motorola device with the Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM on board, specifications which should ensure the device a nice spot in the high end bracket.

As you can see in the image, the device dubbed as the Moto XT1650 comes with Qualcomm’s MSM8996 on board, with three processor cores. The four cores have been clocked at 1.59 GHz but as the final device hits the shelves, whenever Motorola chooses to launch it, we’d expect this to change as well. In addition to the Snapdragon, Motorola’s device has also been posted with 4GB of RAM on board, which should be enough to satisfy a lot of performance heavy users out there.
While these specifications might put the 2016 Moto X at the top of the performance bracket, there’s still very little information about the device’s other specifications and features. As we see time and time again, its often how manufacturers choose to differentiate their devices in terms of design, display and camera that sets the pace for market reception, so unless more surfaces on the Moto X on these ends as well, we’d advise you to take things slowly for the smartphone. Helio X30 Will Cut Performance Consumption By 50 Percent When Compared To Helio X20

Helio X30 is definitely a force to be reckoned with, as the latest benchmarks showed that the SoC was able to defeat a Snapdragon 820 in the latest AnTuTu scores. In addition to delivering a boatload of performance, Helio X30 is going to be extremely efficient when it comes to consuming power.

Helio 30 Reported To Only Deliver A 2 Percent Performance Gain, But A Whopping 50 Percent Power Consumption Reduction

The latest information from GizmoChina states that the Helio X30 might only be able to provide a 2 percent performance over Helio X20, but will boast energy efficiency of 50 percent. The 2 percent performance gain is something that got us scratching our heads. Looking at the previous AnTuTu scores, Helio X30 is leading the pack, while Helio X20 is trailing behind several chipsets, so as far as performance gain is concerned, it appears that the source did not care to mention under which scenario will this be experienced.
The number of cores are going to remain constant between Helio X20 and Helio X30, with one notable exception being that instead of 4 Cortex-A53 cores, they are going to be replaced with 4 Cortex-A35 ones. As reported earlier, Cortex-A35 is ARM’s most efficient processor to date, even surpassing the capabilities of Cortex-A53. According to the source, these 4 cores are going to be running at a speed of 2.0GHz. The entire processor configuration of Helio X30 has been listed as follows:
  • 2 x Cortex-A7x cores running at 2.8GHz (or quite possibly cores belonging to the Artemis architecture)
  • 4 x Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.2GHz
  • 4 x Cortex-A35 cores running at 2.0GHz
  • 2 x LPDDR4 RAM ePOP (indicating that the SoC will be an ‘all in on package’)
  • A high-performing PowerVR GPU instead of an ARM Mali one

According to a previous reported, Helio X30 is expected to be manufactured on the 10nm FinFET process, and the first batch of phones expected to arrive in the market will probably be during the first quarter of 2017, if TSMC is able to produce a high amount of yield to one of its biggest clients. Additionally, the upcoming SoC will feature Imagination Technologies’ 7 series chip with four processing cores.
We will have to wait and see how this will hold up against the likes of Adreno 530, but looking at a smaller lithographic process, we should hope great things from Helio X30. Now, its Huawei’s turn, and if you take a look at the information which has surfaced today straight out of the manufacturer’s home country, the company still has some improvements to make. According to sources, the Kirin 960 will be coming with upgrades on several fronts. The most important of these for the processor is Cat. 12 integration, which should improve power consumption quite a bit on the chipset.
Alongside this, you should also expect the Kirin 960 to make the jump to ARM’s Artemis and come with eight cores on board; ensuring that most of today’s performance intensive needs are met. However, the manufacturing process for the processor is still 16nm, so as the mobile world steadies itself for 10nm next year, the Kirin 960 should stay woefully behind once again.

One of these will be the aforementioned jump to 10nm, which should ensure that the chipset remains one the most competitive offerings out there. As Samsung and Qualcomm race each other for the flagship processor crown, its high time for other manufacturers the like of MediaTek to step up their game and today’s information suggests a bright future for the company. In addition to 10nm, the chip will also be coming with a similar tri-cluster design as the Helio X20.

GT Sport & The Last Guardian To Launch This Year, Says Sony Executive

It appears that both GT Sport and The Last Guardian are due to launch in 2016, even though we haven’t heard anything about them in quite a while. Sony Executive Philippe Cardon, Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment for Southern Europe, confirmed as much in an interview with French website Challenges.
Interestingly, there is no mention for Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn which has been rumored to be delayed into 2017. At any rate, we should learn a lot more about all these games in just a few weeks at E3 2016, so stay tuned for more on these PlayStation 4 exclusives.
